Trying to be...

2003-09-01 - 6:31 p.m.

This weekend I had very few things on my agenda:

1. Spend time with the Mr.

(Status: Done! Mega, mega quality time together. In fact, aside from things like showering and other bathroom stuff, I think we were together non-stop since Friday when I got home from work.)

2. Get some exercise.

(Status: Done! Somewhat. We went for a super, duper, duper long walk on Sunday that was just amazing. We wandered through the park literally for hours. I'm guessing all total we walked between 8 and 10 miles. Nice leisurely strolling while the sun was shining --- through the USTA area, over by Shea Stadium (both of which are pretty funny for two non-sports fans like us), through the zoo and by the museums. Amazing. Yep, I should have also exercised on Saturday and Monday, but hey, its better than how I usually am on the weekends)

3. Read 3 books

(Status: I am mid-way through book 3. Book one was The Lovely Bones that I literally could not put down. At times tears were streaming down my face, and I was completely entranced. I read her other book last year, and can't believe I waited so long to read this one. Then I read a trashy Brigit Jones type book called Guilty Feet which is totally predictable, yet cute. A fast read. I am now reading Candace Bushnell's Sex and the City because I never read it before. Its pretty funny to read it now after watching the show for so long, because I am imagining Sarah Jessica Parker's voice. So yeah, no great literary works, but I just wanted to lose myself in books this weekend, and I have succeeded)

4. Research our vacation.

(Status: Our budget may be too low. Everything we found in our price range got pretty awful reviews on tripadvisor.com. But I think we may go back to Jamaica (a different part of the country) based on affordability. I wanted Mexico, but I don't think that will work. Suggestions of places are welcome...you may email me. Oh, we prefer all-inclusive, just because its easier than digging in to a wallet every few hours)

5. Spend no money

(Status: Ok, so we spent $25 on lunch on Sunday mid-way through our marathon walk. It was totally worth it. We were wandering and wandering and wandering, then though "wow, we've been walking for 3 hours, we're hungry!". So we decided to try to find the world's fair marina, which is nowhere near the world's fair monument. It took us another 1 1/2 hours to find it, and it was really pretty over on the promanade there. You kind of felt like the airplanes were going to land on you (its very very close to laguardia airport). Anyway, we got there and were quite surprised to find it was an Indian restaurant. Totally authentic Indian. There was some kind of celebration taking place, everyone dressed very formally (and us in t-shirts and shorts, with hats on looking exhausted). We went upstairs (away from the festivities) and our waiter suggested we get the buffet, and he would serve us a smattering of dishes. It was incredible. Every now and then he just appeared with a few more dishes, and naans...the owner kept asking us if everything was ok ("Not too spicy?") which it was. We ate and ate and ate, and could not eat another bite. All for $10 each, plus tip. Crazy, right? Otherwise, we spent $0 this weekend. go us!)
